I had decided a while ago that my other half (CLB for short) needed to be introduced to the countryside as he is a city boy through and through…plus, its a good excuse to pop ones glamping cherry! I’d been camping many a time in my younger years; as a proud brownie, scout and venture scout I’d spent endless nights in the wilderness however I needed the softly softly approach with CLB as his previous camping experiences had put him off for life…!
I’d researched and researched and researched spots up and down the UK however there were either too far away, too pricey or not available for the chosen weekend. Thankfully, one of my good friends had recently been glamping and told me all about Mrs Mills’ Yurts near the Forest of Dean – a little further away than I had planned but after checking out the website and seeing those yurts – swoon – I just couldn’t resist!
See what I mean!
Nicola was a pleasure to deal with and made the booking process nice and simple via email. She also sent over menu’s for homemade catering and the website details plenty of local activities. Food wise we opted for the BBQ Box however when the time came the heavens opened and there was no way either of us were going to cook in the rain! Thankfully Nicola totally understood and we swapped our order to a Spanish Chorizo One Pot, served with Ciabatta, delicious.
As the whole weekend was a surprise for CLB I wanted to book things in advance to avoid any “what shall we do today” moments. I chose Hillside Brewery for a tour and tasting on the Saturday afternoon.
Then the Sunday was for cycling around the forest on bikes from Pedalabikeaway Cycle Centre, which perfectly rounded up a superb weekend. Neither one of us wanted Sunday to come to and end, and I’m pretty proud to say that CLB is keen for another countryside trip ASAP – yippee!
Top Tip: Take the Friday off work, we arrived at 10pm and really didn’t make the most from having booked two nights.
