A girly weekend in the British countryside to end the summer and celebrate a good friends birthday is just what this city gal needed. My friend (K for short) had booked the eight of us into a quintessentially English cottage via Air BnB.
The cottage comprised of four rooms either with double or twin beds, a well equipped kitchen with dining table and a sitting room with large sofas and giant cushions. The sitting room was made complete with a working fire place – one of my personal favourites in any accommodation.
K being the planner that she is had also devised a great weekend schedule with walking, pampering and eating taking priority! Once everyone had arrived post work on the Friday evening we ate, drunk and caught up as it had been a few months since we’d all been together.
The Saturday was mostly taken up with walking through the Berkshire countryside which is stunning – check out our route here – 6.5 miles of stunning views and mostly glorious sunshine made for a wonderful four hours of trekking through fields and woods.
We came across sheep and lots of horses, this fella below seemed to have a bit of a thing for the apple tree growing aside his paddock, cute or what!
We stopped a mile or two from the end for a pub break then it was home for cake and pampering. We each donned a face and hair mask, jazzed up our nails and became somewhat disturbed with Pierce Brosnans (awful) singing in Mamma Mia.
Following our relaxing afternoon we moseyed on down the road to the very local Eastbury Plough and ate our well earned three course dinner. I think we probably all rolled home after that!
Sunday we watched another movie, said goodbye and departed to head back to our respective corners of the country. A fabulous weekend with fabulous friends in the fabulous countryside – too many fabulous’s? No!
