30 Years Young

I recently turned 30, and after thinking it’d probably be dreadful I in fact had the best weekend with my family and friends.

It started out with celebratory drinks at Simmons Clerkenwell and a night at Crowne Plaza Kings Cross, which in all honesty wasn’t the nicest IHG property I’ve stayed in but it was such a short stay so I ignored the imperfections.

Saturday’s family brunch was had at Plum + Spilt Milk in Kings Cross which was so lovely, I’ll be returning for a dinner date ASAP I hope!

After brunch CLB and I headed to Paddington Station and jumped aboard a fast train to Bath where the mystery adventures began. First up was finding out where we’d be staying; the adorably quaint Oak House. This was the first Canopy & Stars property I’d stayed in (after years of dreaming to stay in one of their places) and it certainly won’t be the last. We hunkered down with dinner c/o M&S, Scrabble and of course a burning log or two.

Sunday came and the surprises continued…Breakfast in bed, Christmas Market shopping where we picked up some lovely items, skating @ Bath on Ice followed by a scrumptious roast at Hare and Hounds – post a rather long up hill hike where we certainly earned those tatties and Yorkshire Puds! Another night ensued of a roaring fire plus husband and wife time…perfection.

The following morning check out was a little on the early side @ 10:30 but it did mean we got to make the most of the morning around Bath before the final treat of the weekend; a couples massage and afternoon tea at The Royal Crescent Hotel & Spa. Pre massage we were able to use the spa facilities which consisted of a lovely heated pool, jacuzzi, steam room and sauna – simply heavenly. Then the message itself was wonderful, 60minutes of bliss! For the afternoon tea there was a selection of four different types; eventually we settled on the Elizabeth Montagu with a glass of Taittinger and a pot of English Breakfast tea each – delicious!

Sadly the next stop was the station and a trip back to London on a rather busy Monday evening train, thankfully CLB had managed to reserve our seats when booking on the Trainline website.

Such a delightful weekend and one that will never be forgotten. If you’re turning 30 anytime soon, relish it don’t dread it ☺️
