What do you do when you’ve no weekend plans and a passion for travel? Book a spontaneous stay at the De Vere Wokefield Estate at 10am on the day of check-in!
Booked on the De Vere website our deal included a one night stay in a superior double, a 3-course dinner and breakfast the following morning, all for the bargain price of £159 (we then paid an extra £10 per head for dinner in the 1560 Restaurant instead of the buffet included in the deal).
We got to the hotel about an hour before check-in opened and as our room wasn’t ready we hit the sports bar for a light bite; the food was good and hit the spot along with a glass of vino overlooking the on-site golf course.
Shortly after check-in we realised our room was right above a wedding party that we found out would be going on until 1am, not exactly what you’re after for a romantic night away, so after a quick word to the receptionist we were ever so kindly moved and the room was in fact much nicer and had lovely views of the garden.
We then hit the pool and sauna for a quick R&R session before taking a walk around the extensive grounds in the sunshine. The De Vere Wokefield Estate has lots to offer including garden games, a football pitch, climbing tower, high robes, laser combat and more (some of these are at additional cost and via an external company).
Next up was my beloved bath time, a must for any hotel I stay in that houses a tub!
We decided to visit the bar for a pre-dinner drink before settling in to the restaurant for the next couple of hours. There was some apparent teething problems with the service but I’m going to put this down to the restaurant recently reopening so hopefully that should improve with time. The menu was extensive and the food tasty and that’s all that really matters at the end of the day.
Before we knew it it was time to retire to our room for a dreamy sleep.
The following morning we took breakfast in bed and checked out to head back to London. A perfect bit of relaxation on a sunny weekend in the countryside, what more could one want!
