During a recent trip to Rio we dined in a variety of establishments and all of them I would recommend for their own reasons, so here is my list of where to eat in Rio de Janeiro…
Americana Restaurante & Pizzaria
This longstanding establishment has been serving locals and tourists for over 50 years and you can see why, a simple yet tasty menu of pizza, seafood and pasta.
One of the many restaurants in Rio that offer a weigh and pay buffet, plus an all you can eat option for those with slightly bigger appetites.
Carretão do Lido
Dining at a churrascaria (Portuguese word for barbecue) is a must in Brazil, and you’ll find a plethora of restaurants around the city for this. This place in particular played host to our NYE dinner and it was delicious!
Being surrounded by sea in Rio made me really craved mussels and thankfully Bar Astor delivered! Located in Ipanema this restaurant serves great food, great drinks and has a great atmosphere, the only downside being the waiting times for a table so book ahead to avoid disappointment.
Flor da Urca
The locals favourite, Flor da Urca is the place to go in Urca for a traditional Brazilian meal of meat, rice and beans. Big portions for a small amount of money, you can’t go wrong here!
Newly opened when we visited, Êtta serves a mix of Brazilian and British favourites.
Jarbô Café e Brasserie
Located in the grounds of the Jardim Botanico (before the entrance gate) this brasserie serves a great selection of food and drink to keep the hunger at bay before a wonder around the beautiful garden.
