A spontaneous night away following a day visting family near Swindon took us to The Bunk Inn located in Thatcham, near Newbury. This country pub with nine rooms was the perfect countryside stopover to fill our stomachs and rest our heads.
Our large room, which was located around the back of the premises and therefore nice and quiet, featured a huge bed and dressing table and the bathroom housed and a personal favourite of mine, a free standing tub…so I was one happy lady.
We decided to have a drink before dinner and the selection of beers, wines and spirits is pretty extensive. After settling on a G&T we were seated in the restaurant, which for a country pub pretty much in the middle of nowhere was fairly busy, always a good sign!
A sharing camembert later and I barely had any room left for main course so opted for a small salad and a large wine before we retired back to our gigantic bed.
In the morning the sun was shining bright whilst we made our way to the pub conservatory for a breakfast of eggs and avocado. Unfortunately we didn’t have time to stick around to enjoy the surrounding countryside but I would definitely head back to The Bunk Inn should we be in the area again.
