A Birthday Weekend in London
I may live in London but that doesn’t mean I don’t love to spend time in the city therefore a recent birthday surprise trip from CLB went down an absolute treat; here’s all the amazing surprises he planned…
Surprise No. 1 – Horse Riding @ Wimbledon Village Stables
I’d been booked in for a private hour long hack on Wimbledon Common and it was such a fantastic ride. I rode a lovely lady called Jazz, and my instructor was on Jasper – we plodded across the golf course, trotted under the whistling trees and cantered through the masses of autumn leaves. It felt so good to be back in the saddle and I really wish I could do it more often. This was by far my most favourite hack to date and a fabulous start to an awesome couple of days.
Surprise No.2 – Overnight Stay @ Grange Tower Bridge Hotel
As I was asked to pack enough clothes for a one night stay I guessed we were staying in a hotel, and I was right! CLB had booked us into (via Secret Escapes) the Grange near Tower Bridge where we had an Executive Room and the deal included an English Breakfast the following morning.
Surprise No. 3 – Back, Neck & Shoulder Massage @ Ajala Spa
The hotel has its own spa with plenty of amenities – sauna, steam room, jacuzzi, treatment rooms, gym and a large pool. Whilst CLB visited the sauna I was in for another treat…a lovely 25-minute massage which was much needed after a few busy weeks at work.
Surprise No. 4 – Dinner @ The Gerkin c/o Searcys
We both love a bit of fine dining when an occasion calls for it and this one has been on the list for a while; I’m so glad we got to tick it off! The whole restaurant is served from a set menu; you just choose your three courses plus wine (and bubbles in our case) and off you go! My menu went a little something like this:
Starter – Buratta ‘Mozzarella’ / Heritage Beets / Pomegranate / Toasted Hazelnuts
Main – Cod / Scallop & Octopus Daube / Sweet Potato / Kale
Dessert – Chocolate Delice / Praline / Almond Milk Sorbet
The views are spectacular but the pictures (example below) don’t do it justice as its light inside but I’ll hold the images in my head instead 😄
Surprise No. 5 – Theatre Trip to see Les Misérables
I woke up to tickets for the Les Mis matinee on the Saturday afternoon so after taking breakfast in bed we made our way to the West End via Borough Market where we had a quick gander and a mulled wine! I love musical theatre so was in my element, and I thoroughly enjoyed every part and wouldn’t hesitate to go again.
WHAT A WEEKEND! I was spoiled rotten for sure, lets see what next year has in store 😜
