Hampton Court Palace & The Flower Pot

Adventure doesn’t necessarily have to happen far from home. If you are interested in exploring what Greater London has on offer then look no further than some of the Historic Royal Palaces then if you fancy, like we did, pair it with a night away too.

Hampton Court Palace was our HRP of choice on this particular occasion. A picnic and a palace coupled with a very warm and sunny day and you can barely feel you are anywhere near the big smoke! You’ll actually just be on the London/Surrey border.

An audio guide is included in your entry fee so you can learn all about the history of the buildings and those who lived there. Next it was time to find the maze and after a ‘little while’ we managed to complete it!

Check out the gardens for some fresh air too, we couldn’t resist as the weather was so glorious. For those who don’t wish to explore the gardens on foot there is a horse and carriage ride you can take (additional charge). We didn’t partake in this activity (much to my dismay) but perhaps next time I’ll convince CLB its worth it!

Mid afternoon came and it was time to head off to our B&B for the night – The Flower Pot – what a fabulous find! I couldn’t have been happier with this well presented, clean and friendly coaching inn. We had room 5 which was lovely (despite the weak shower), it was well decorated and of great size too.

We headed downstairs for a quick drink out the front as the sun was still shining and then into the pub for dinner, which was scrumptious. As it was a Sunday it was their quiz night but as we were part way through dinner when this started we didn’t partake, sadly.

I had to leave before breakfast to head to work but CLB was very pleased with his fry up!
